There is an appealing history to the Cambodia gambling dens that lie just across the border from nearby Thailand, where gambling den wagering is prohibited. Eight casinos are anchored in a relatively tiny space in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia casinos is in a perfect location, a three to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular gaming locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai laborers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The amazing capital gained from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a number of controls constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is assumed to be largely Thai; however, financing sources are ambiguous. The borders are formally open from 0900 to 17:00, and though visas are supposedly needed to pass, there are means around this, as is correct of many borders.
The initial Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only one casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked boat gambling den, highlights one hundred and fifty slot machine games and sixty gaming tables. The Naga gambling hall never closes with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, four tables of vingt-et-un, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The initial gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon opened. There are one hundred and fifty slots and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slots and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slot machine games and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slots and ninety six table games, including 87 baccarat chemin de fer (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machine games and sixty six of the normal tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, again a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an international vacation and hotel compound that contains many amenities aside from the gambling hall, which houses 10,000 sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slot machine games and 88 gaming tables.
